Would you love to teach your dog lots of super cool tricks that you can show off in front of your guests? Or in front of your spouse? Or maybe in front of a bigger audience?
Then this class is definitely for you!
In this tricks class we will be working with many cool tricks used in dog dancing, dog parkour, and even disc dog! Training tricks can further our relationship with our dog and stimulate it both mentally and physically.
Different levels of tricks classes
We offer two different levels of this class so there will be a class for you, no matter how much experience you have in tricks training already. Our two levels are:
- Beginner Dog Tricks Training
- Advanced Dog Tricks Training
What does the tricks classes involve?
In our beginners class we will be looking at simple and fundamental exercises. These awesome beginner tricks work as a foundation for more advanced dog tricks. We will be looking at which tricks are great for warming up your dog’s body as well as different tricks that promote calmness and higher arousal. In this class, you will learn tricks such as paw, wave, twist, and slalom between your legs. You will also be learning more intermediate tricks such as getting your dog to reverse (walking backwards away from you), walking in a backwards circle around you, and having the dog walk with its paws on top of your feet. You will also get an introduction into starting to chain different tricks together to make up new tricks or create flow between them – and so much more!
This beginner class is the ultimate starting point for you who want to have more fun with your dog, whether you just want to be able to perform cool tricks at home, or if you have a dream of competing in Heelwork to Music or Canine Musical Freestyle at Crufts!
Our advanced class will build on top of all of the tricks from the beginner class. Here, we will convert tricks such as waving into the dog sitting pretty or begging. We will work with lots of cool jumps and use many more props in our training. There will be a bigger focus on linking different tricks together to create super flow and amazing chains of behaviours that you will be able to use in dog dancing routines. Depending on the interest from the class, we might also work with small bits of music and try to chain a short series together. This way you can get a feel of how amazing it is to do tricks with your dog to music!
The advanced class is also very different from the beginner class in another aspect. You can still take this class as a single block of 6 sessions, but you can also sign up to several blocks. You can even get annual memberships to sign up for a year at a time! This class will not just repeat the same 6 sessions over and over, but will be based and tailored to suit the dogs in the class at the time. Therefore, if you have specific goals or certain tricks you would love to learn, we will be looking at them! This class is all about progress, fun with your dog, and life-long relationship boosting!
You will never be done learning new tricks. If you’re stuck, it just means you haven’t gone outside of your comfort zone or challenged your imagination yet. So let’s come up with YOUR new trick!
(Sometimes, we might decide to combine the beginner and advanced tricks classes into one if there are only few signed up. This provides you with an excellent opportunity to see how far you can come with your own dog, or how far you have already gotten! It is easily forgotten where we once started with our dogs, and sometimes we lose the motivation to continue training if we cannot see where we might end up. Mixed classes are therefore some of my personal favourites as it boosts development and progression for both beginners and advanced handlers!)
In this class you will be taught by a trainer who has more than 10 years experience in tricks training. This includes tricks training of both dogs and cats! I have been a part of the dog dancing world since 2009 and have been training tricks since 2005. I have also written a book about dog parkour, in which you can use many of the awesome tricks you learn in tricks classes! You can find the book here. If you want to know more about tricks and dog dancing you can find more information at our main website or by sending us an email.
